According to a report in Caricom Blog, the insistence of CARICOM member states Haiti, Belize, St. Vincent & The Grenadines and St. Kitts/Nevis on recognizing Taiwan while the other CARICOM member states pursue diplomatic relations with China, has proven to be a barrier to development of investment, aid and trade policy with the 4th largest world economy. This refusal is in face of the fact that China is a significant lending partner of the Caribbean Development Bank, which assists Caribbean nations in financing social and economic programs in their respective counries.
